In the wake of technology, our society is witness to a transition that the generation of our grandparents could not have imagined. For instance, mobile phones have reached the remotest villages today, and are in existence even in places where people claim, have no basic facilities for health, sanitation or education.
By this, we also know that such a thing like the mobile phone was all it took to transform and enhance the quality of communication in our lives. That, what was impossible to imagine some decades back is now a reality and is more of a necessity than a trend is also proof that our society has the ability to adapt to change if the situation demands so.
We are constantly evolving and essentially so, that we continue to invent, look for ways to change and hope for better lives. The new age demands of us that we are acquainted with technology. But more than the demand it seeks, the present generation is completely blown over by it; so much so, that it is part of their daily lives today. Something like the internet is indispensable in this age. Speaking of which, today, the most powerful and frequently used tools are probably the social networking sites.
Firstly, because they are being designed in such a way that everything from sharing photographs to news, thoughts, events, etc, etc can somehow all fit in. Popular social networking sites like Facebook, has particularly garnered so much attention across the world that our lives seem dependent on it.
And the first place where any kind of information gets leaked is unsurprisingly Facebook. This is the kind of place where everything, good or bad, dull or interesting, happy or sad, silly or serious, real or unreal, and the like finds its dwelling place. Most of us would agree that we are totally hooked to it like it is part of our daily routine. Whether or not that is a good thing or a bad thing is really left to the individual to decide, because everything else comes with pros and cons.
But there is no dearth to what a powerful medium like this can do to uplift the society, or elevate our standard of living and the quality of our lives when effectively used. There is no end to positive thinking, which would eventually lead to positive actions.
The new media in whichever form it comes is here to stay. It is left to our wisdom and understanding to use it the best way we can. Information comes to us in too fast a pace today. There are chances of being misinformed, chances of being led to think otherwise than intended, chances of being fooled, there are just too many chances of taking the wrong directions and building the wrong notions because of the improper information we receive.
But if there are as many chances of being deceived, then there is also equal number of chances for greater things to happen. If we have heard of the needy being extended help; if we have managed to form groups on Facebook for social good; if this place has served as a platform for us to voice out; to discuss grievances and measures; then bigger actions are certainly not far to fetch. A goldmine of positive changes seems to lie here. It is only us who need to take a step forward and harness it for the greater good.
